Here's a technique for effective manual decrackling of recorded vinyl. It's good for vinyl recordings that have constant low-level crackling and small clicks throughout. It removes the crackle and clicks with much less harm to the audio than regular declicking. To start, Let's say you recorded the LP Revolver by the Beatles, the name of the music file will be named: "Revolver".

1. Collect (paste) together all the parts of the Revolver file that has no audio, such as the spaces between tracks.
(see below for an example of what size crackle to collect)

2.
Set the Cool Edit Noise Reduction parameters at: 600 snapshots, Precision Factor 20, fft size 8192. Now get a noise sample from this material, save its profile.

3. Perform a Noise Reduction over the music file "Revolver" using this noise sample using 100% (maximum) reduction, Keeping Noise Only (again, set parameters to: 600 snapshots, Precision Factor 20, fft size 8192). When it's complete, save as: Revolver nse When that is done saving, save it again as: Revolver nse dclk. This will collect most crackling and small clicks  along with vinyl surface noise and a little signal audio. The idea is to get a file with most of the crackle/small clicks and little of the signal audio from which to perform the actual declicking, this way, the declicking will have little signal audio to work with that it could remove along with the crackle/clicks  so that there will be much less signal audio degradation than with regular declicking of signal audio.

4. Declick the Revolver nse dclk file using a healthy declicking setting  to detect and fix most of the crackle/clicks. Don't worry as much as usual about harming the audio  since you are not declicking the original audio, just the noise/crackle from it. Save.

5. Mix Paste-Overlap-Invert the Revolver nse file onto this Revolver nse dclk file  yielding just the (inverted) crackle/small clicks captured in the Revolver nse file, Save and close.

6. Open the Revolver file, (UNCHECK THE INVERT BOXES) Mix Paste-Overlap the Revolver nse dclk file onto this original Revolver audio file  yielding a decrackled signal audio with almost no degradation to the original audio signal. Declick automatically or manually  for final touch up.

Collected crackle must be no higher in amplitude than the above example, Any higher and you will get loud artifacts
in the form of Ghost Pops and Hollow pops that are very difficult to remove.
