HOW IT'S DONE
How the purchase of 45 Minutes of music with Level 1 Affordable World Class Audio Restoration Is Done for $20.00 We have found that throughout the years, the following steps are the best way to perform LP to CD audio restoration. We use a large arsenal of world class applications and hardware (see equipment for further details on the hardware we use). The results are astonishing. The following lists the process and the tools we use to restore your audio with the Level 1 treatment. STEP 1 Your LP's, cassette tapes, and 45's condition is checked for restorability, then catalogued and staged for restoration. You will be notified if major flaws are found and to what degree this will effect the restoration before any restoration work is done. Restorations are on a First-Come, First-Served basis. See FAQ page for lead time. STEP 2 If your LP's, cassettes and 45's pass the analysis, or we have conferred with you about your damaged media, your vinyl is then cleaned using a VPI HW-17 record cleaning machine. We use all high-end stereo equipment: For LP'S and 45's: a Bang and Olufsen Beogram 8000 turntable utilizing a Sound-smith line contact diamond stylus, Audiolab 8000Q preamp, Bryston 3BST, Monster 850i interconnect cables, Luxman phono stage, Delta audio PCI sound card. Cassettes utilize the same stereo equipment. STEP 3 32 bit 44.1khz lp to cd transfer with restoration starts: LP'S and 45's are recorded to the computer hard drive. Next the extremely large clicks and scratches are repaired using TC Electronic Powercore Restoration Suite's De-scratch plug in. STEP 4 We will review the audio for any remaining clicks or pops. If any remain, they will be repaired using either Waves Restoration Bundle's X-Click and/or Powercore Restoration's de-click. We then recheck again for any clicks or pops that might remain; at this point, only a few hollow pops or ghost pops remain (artifacts) that Sonic foundry's noise reduction 2.0 usually repairs set to: low sensitivity, low click shape, high noise, while monitoring and adjusting click size from low to high. STEP 5 The sound file is de-crackled and using the "younglove trick" which utilizes Powercore's decrackle plug-in. This removes the extremely small clicks with little or no degradation to the sound file. (Crackle can be thought of as the sound produced when you crush dry leaves.) STEP 6 The sound file is now de-noised of broadband noise using either: Powercore Restoration Suite's denoise, Waves X-Noise, Arboretum Systems Ionizer or Arboretum systems Raygun Pro. These are used in very low settings. STEP 7 If needed, De-hum is performed using Waves X-Hum and/or arboretum systems Ionizer. This ends the 32 bit 44.1khz processing. STEP 8 Your audio file is rechecked once again. This time monitored through an EQ with the seven 6.4khz thru 25khz bands set very high. If Noise Reduction 2.0 couldn't repair the artifact in step 4, then they will be removed manually here at the 16 bit, 44.1khz rate. This is the only manual cutting that will occur. If the cutting harms or changes the music in any way they will be left in. You will be notified where these unremovable artifacts are located. This marks the end of the lp to cd transfer with restoration. STEP 9 Your sound file is split into separate tracks and burned onto an archival Tru-Silver CD (guaranteed for at least one hundred years if properly taken care of). An upgrade to Tru-Gold CD is available also for an additional $3.00 (guaranteed for at least two hundred to three hundred years if properly taken care of). Your newly created CD will then be shipped to you in a paper sleeve along with your original album. |
